Canyonlands was the first National Park we visited, after driving all day from Salt Lake City to Moab. We arrived for a beautiful sunset and spotted a couple of very photogenic ravens that posed for me. I don’t know why the Grand Canyon is such a big deal, because Canyonlands was far more awe-inspiring to me. We also stayed for some stargazing during the new moon. I have never seen the stars so clearly as I did on this night – we could even see the Milky Way clearly above us! We also met a fun group of college students to hang out with and got a special treat when a park ranger showed up to talk to us about astrophotography. I’ll follow this up soon with some of my attempted astrophotography (it was certainly a learning experience!) But for now please enjoy these beautiful landscapes.
