I have known Frances Quinlan of Hop Along since 2003 when we both attended the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts (RIP PGSA program, you changed our lives). I’ve been chasing her around with my camera ever since. When I lived in Philadelphia, I photographed Hop Along at every show that I could attend. Since then they have skyrocketed in popularity and renown. I couldn’t be more proud of this girl whom I first spotted sitting at a table in Harrisburg, as we both waited for interviews to get into an arts program that would shape the rest of my life.
From the tiny basement shows, to the big(ger) stages, I’ve followed Hop Along and done my best to promote the band through my photography (and also on my radio show at WPTS in my Pitt undergrad days) and it is so surreal to be surrounded by so many fans singing along. We’ve both come so far, and it was so much fun to rock out with Frances and the rest of the band on Wednesday night at Spirit. Next time they’re in town, check them out and look for me with a camera in hand.
